In a September meeting of the EU Competitiveness Council, the participating ministers called the European Commission to establish a three-step plan to combat piracy and counterfeiting. The three steps will be the following: a) setting up of an observatory that will use the existing information in order to better analyze the situation in the area of counterfeits and piracy, b) circulation of the existing data to all those involved in combating counterfeits and piracy, and c) an effort to inform the public through the publication of guides and the organization of a European awareness day.
