The Hellenic Copyright Organization participated in the 6th International Conference of the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission “Advanced Communication Infrastructures as a Cornerstone for Europe's Digital Agenda”
The Hellenic Copyright Organization in cooperation with EKEBI and the Hellenic Authors Society organized a seminar with the subject “Copyright, Authors and Translators: what changes in the digital environment”.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization participated in a specialized seminar for the Protection of Products from counterfeiting that was organized by the Industrial Property Organization and the Association of Industries of Northern Greece. The seminar was addressed to medium sized enterprises.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization participated in the first conference of the IPR Protect project with the subject “IP Protect for SMEs and Start-UPS”. Its representatives presented a report with the subject “The Use of GPL licenses in software development”
The Hellenic Copyright Organization participated in the seminar “Intellectual Property Rights in Medium Sized Enterprises – Means and Tools for their Enforcement” that was organized in the framework of the European Program IPeuropAware.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization presented the topic “Measures against the infringement of intellectual property rights in Greece” at a conference for the Enforcement of Rights for Plant Varieties that was organized in Athens by the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) and the Ministry for Rural Development.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization participated in the seminar “Protect your intellectual property right” that was organized in the framework of the European Program IPeuropAware.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization participated in a conference on Intellectual Property with the subject “Rights, Protection and Legal Framework”, that was organized by the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce in Athens.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization is organizing a scientific seminar with the subject “Recent developments in copyright law”. The seminar is taking place on Thursday, December 10 2009, from 17.00 to 20.00, in the hall “Europe” of Nomiki Bibliothiki, 23 Mavromihali str. Athens.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO) and the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) organized a seminar with the subject “Enforcement of Copyright Law: Greek and US Experience” for 35 judges from all over Greece. The sections of the seminar discussed the following: US and Greek Enforcement and Judicial Systems, Civil Law and Criminal Law. The seminar took place on the 20th of February 2009, in Hilton hotel. The event is the second in a series of events organized by HCO and USPTO.

The event will take place in Thessaloniki on Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st of October.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization (OPI) and the US Patent Office (USPTO) organize an International Conference with subject: «Copyright Policies and the Role of Stakeholders».
The Conference will take place on the 26th and the 27th of June 2008 from 09.00 until 16.00, in Hilton hotel.
The goal of the Conference is that modern issues of copyright that have arisen in Europe as well as the United States will be presented and discussed. These issues will be presented by representatives of the USPTO, the Hellenic Copyright Organization, the European Union, Greek and European Universities, as well as of international organizations such as WIPO, WCO, IFFRO, IFPI, MPAA and BSA.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization (OPI) will participate in the 5th International Book Fair of Thessaloniki which will take place from May the 29th until June first 2008. In the framework of the events, a round table will be organized under the title «Book and Copyright», on Friday the 30th of May from 12.00 to 13.00, in the hall “Karagatsis”, where the representatives of OPI will present the above mentioned subject. During the fair, informative and educational material will be available at the kiosk of OPI.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization organized a series of events on the 6th of May 2008 to celebrate the World Intellectual Property Day. Because of the great importance of copyright, the Ministries of Development, Foreign Affairs, the Collecting Societies and the Industrial Property Organization all participated in the events. The celebration took place in Syntagma Metro Station Hall and it included a press conference, greetings from several officials and the awards of prizes to the winners of the Pan-Hellenic Students’ Competitions. The celebration continued with live performances from Nikos Touliatos and his band Ihodrasis, a children’s choir, and a jazz quartet. In the framework of the events, elementary school pupils had the chance to participate in a visual arts happening.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization is organizing a Conference with the subject “The Protection of Copyright in the Information Society” with the aim of presenting the project “Integrated Informational System for the Protection of Copyright in Greece” which was realized in the framework of measure 1.3 of the Operational Program “Information Society” of the 3rd CSF.
The conference will take place on Thursday, 27th of March at the conference hall of the Athens Bar Association.
The above mentioned project is financed by both ERDF and National Public Expenditure (80% and 20 % accordingly).
During the conference, participants will be given printed and digital material relevant to copyright and HCO’s Integrated Informational System.
On December 14, 2007, OPI participated in a Press Conference about the creation of an «Anti-piracy Coalition». Members of the coalitions are: TMeye Hellas, MPA/EPOE, BSA and IFPI. The coalition aims to inform the public on copyright issues and on issues of counterfeat products and piracy.
On December 11, 2007, OPI introduced a presentation on the subject of: «Copyright and transmission of cultural events in real time through the internet» in the framework of the event for the promotion of the project «Transmission of cultural events in real time through the internet» in the Faculty of Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
On November 28, 2007, the Chamber of Rethymno and the Company VIOPA S.A. of Rethymno in the framework of the initiative for the foundation of incubator of creative business' in the field of VIOPA, organized a meeting on the subject of intellectual property in creative business'. A representative of OPI developed issues of copyright and creative bussines'.
On Novenber 12, 2007, OPI in cooperation with the Association of Graduates of Music Schools of Thessaloniki organized a Conference on the subject of: "Music and Copyright" in the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki. The objective of the Conference is to inform musicians and lawyers on the rights of musicians either as creators or as artists-performers that are derived from Copyright law and the approach of legal aspects in the analogue as well as the digital field.
On November 8, 2007, OPI organized a Conference in the Athens Concert Hall on the subject of: «Journalists and Mass Media Publishers: Issues of Copyright». The aim of the Conference is to present and discuss current legal issues that arise within the field of Journalists and Mass Media Publishers.
On October 1, 2007, OPI participated in the 16th Panhellenic Conference of Academic Libraries, which was organized by the University of Piraeus on the subject of: "Copyright and Libraries - Limitations and Technological Measures of Protection".
On September 12, 2007, OPI introduced a presentation on the subject of: «Online copyright protection and management issues» in the framework of the Conference 3rd Regional Electronic Security Forum: Telecommunications Networks & Systems Security that was organized by the South Eastern Europe Telecommunication & Informatics Research Institute (INA)
On May 25, 2007, OPI presented a recommendation on “Issues regarding the enforcement of author’s rights on Internet”, in the context of the gala on “Society’s protection from the development of new forms of technology”, which was held in Chios and was organized by the Chios Police Department in collaboration with the University of the Aegean
On May 17, 2007, OPI presented an introduction to copyright law and implementation issues Law 2121/1993 to the Department of Further Professional Education of Police Warrant Officers and the Department of Further Professional Education of Executive Officers of the Police Academy.
On May 11, 2007, OPI presented its recommendations on “Fundamental copyright concepts” and “Fundamental copyright concepts and the exercise of the moral right in digital libraries” to the Ionian University.
On April 27, 2007, OPI presented its recommendation on “The enforcement of copyright law – enforcement problems” to the Officers School of the Police Academy.
On April 25 and 26, 2007, in the context of the World Intellectual Property Day, OPI organized for the second consecutive year, a series of events at “Technopolis” in Gazi, with the participation of the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Hellenic Industrial Property Organization, the collecting societies AEPI, PHOEBUS, THESPIS, HERMIAS, ERATO, OSDEL, ATHENA, GRAMMO, the collective protection societies EPOE and OPDDE, as well as BSA. The events included a photography exhibition, theatrical plays, dancing, concerts and speeches.
On March 21, 2007, OPI submitted its recommendation on “General Introduction to Copyright. New legislative regulations” at the educational seminar on “Modern problems and positions of case-law on copyright law, competition and consumer protection”, held at the National School of Judges in Thessaloniki.
On March 14, 2007, the Hellenic Copyright Organization organized a seminar on “Counterfeited Products and Piracy”. During the seminar, prizes were awarded to 19 police stations and departments of the Attica District and to the Special Control Service of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. These departments were chosen based on their outstanding activity in the battle against piracy. The prizes were awarded by EPOE, BSA and IFPI.
On February 28, 2007, OPI presented its recommendation on “Surveillance Right and Enforcement of Author’s Rights - Harmonization with Community Law” to the U.S. General Consulate in Thessaloniki, in an event organized by the Consulate in collaboration with MPA (Motion Pictures Association).
On January 15, 2007, OPI presented its recommendation on “Issues of protection and enforcement of author’s rights on the Internet” in the gala organized by the Greek Police Academy and the Law School of the University of Thrace on “Electronic crime over the Internet and mobile telephony – legal and technical protection of the public”.
On December 11, 2006, OPI and HIPO organized a gala on “Protection of Inventions-Technological Information from Industrial Property and Copyright Titles”. OPI presented its recommendation on “Introduction to the fundamental concepts of copyright and presentation by OPI”.
On December 1, 2006, in the context of the Muse Festival (December 1-3, 2006), OPI organized a forum in collaboration with AEPI and with the participation of “Grammo/IFPI”, “Erato” and “Apollo”.
On November 11, 2006, OPI presented its recommendation on “Issues of protection and enforcement of author’s rights in the Internet environment”, in the context of the gala on “Protection of young people on the Internet: educational issues and concerns”, organized by the Department of Primary Education of the University of the Aegean.
From July 12 to 15, 2006, OPI participated in a conference organized in Helsinki by the Finnish Presidency on “Creativity.online.fi - European Content and Copyright Policy”.
On June 21 and 22, 2006, in the context of the International Conference on children’s safe navigation in Internet, organized by the Hellenic Consumer Organization (E.KAT.O), OPI presented its recommendation on “Copyright, children and the Internet”.
On June 1, 2006, OPI presented its recommendation on “Copyright, technology and information society”, in the context of the gala on “Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights and their Protection”, organized by the Technical Chamber of Greece/Department of West Crete.
On April 26, 2006 an event for the World Intellectual Property Day was held for the fist time at the Syntagma METRO station, with OPI’s initiative, for the purpose of public awareness of relevant matters. Several Ministries and Collecting societies participated in this event. The World Intellectual Property Day was celebrated for the first time in 2001, with the collective decision of WIPO’s member-states, for the purpose of increasing the awareness of intellectual property’s important role in everyday life and pointing out the contribution of inventors and authors in the development of society worldwide. April 26th was selected as the celebration date for the World Intellectual Property Day, given that this was the date of WIPO’s foundation and the beginning of its operation (April 26, 1970).
On March 14, 2006, OPI presented its recommendation on “Exercise of the author’s moral right on the Internet” in the context of the 2nd National Conference on “Electronic Democracy-The Challenges of the Digital Age”.
OPI participated in the organization of the Conference on “Archives, Libraries and Law in the Information Society”. The conference was held on February 2 and 3, 2006 and OPI presented its recommendation on “Protection of the moral right in digital libraries”.
